Man Charged with DUI After Driving on Football Field
Kentucky police say they arrested a man who allegedly drove onto an occupied football field while under the influence of alcohol. The driver is facing a single count of DUI — driving under the influence — and 15 separate counts of wanton endangerment. A judge set his bond at $10,000, and at last update, he was still in police custody.
Authorities say that a marching band was using the football field for practice when the 52-year-old man was traveling on a nearby road. At one point, his pickup truck left the roadway and traveled onto the field, which is situated behind an elementary school. Members of the marching band quickly ran from the area, although the driver had reportedly stopped before reaching the group.
Someone then called the police, and a staff member for the marching band removed the driver from his vehicle while waiting for them to respond. When police showed up, they arrested the man without any issues and took him to an area station to book him. A subsequent Breathalyzer test showed that he had a blood-alcohol content of .311%.
The state of Kentucky treats DUI charges quite seriously, especially when they involve BACs over the legal limit of .08%. Defendants in this situation may face longer jail times and steeper fines, and it may take longer to regain driving privileges. Mounting a strong defense is often essential to securing the most favorable outcome possible, so defendants may want to consider seeking guidance as early on in the criminal process as possible.
